Special Use Policy and Agreement
Frank Lloyd Wright Home & Studio and the Frederick C. Robie House
We hope that you and your guests will enjoy the Frank Lloyd Wright Home & Studio. The following is a list of rules and procedures to assist in planning for your special use. Please remember that the Home & Studio is a museum property and a National Historic Landmark. As such, this building is part of our cultural heritage. We consider it an honor and a privilege to use this internationally renowned structure, and depend on you to safeguard it for the future.
Fees
Payment of the following fees to cover use and staffing of the museum are required a minimum of 21 days prior to the date of the special use. An additional $1,000 damage deposit is required, and will be returned within 10 working days afterward, provided there has been no damage to the Home & Studio, its collections, or property. Checks should be made payable to the Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust.
Building Access and Use
Regular group and individual tours are scheduled in advance throughout the year; therefore all events in the building must work around tour schedule. The building can accommodate receptions, as well as seated dinners for small groups. Space requirements limit standing hors d'oeuvres to 35 guests. Seated dinners are limited to 10 guests. If you wish to host a dinner for more than 10 guests, up to 30 people can be accommodated if the room is de-installed. Likewise, if you wish to host a reception for more than 35 guests, up to 60 people can be accommodated if the room is de-installed. Please note there is a $1,000 fee to de-install the room. At the Home and Studio, food and drink may be served in the studio drafting room or Ginkgo Tree Courtyard only. The drafting room and playroom balconies are off limits to guests.
Tours and Monitors
In keeping with the Preservation Trust's educational mission, tours or building interpretation are part of every event and will be given by Preservation Trust volunteers and or staff member who will ensure the safety of guests and collections.
Catering
Due to the special nature of the property, an approved caterer must be selected from the attached list. These businesses are familiar with the museums and have received special training in the procedures required to safeguard the museum and its collections. Please note that the selected catering company is required to review and sign the Preservation Trust’s Catering Agreement, to ensure that the restrictions governing the property have been reviewed.
Building Restrictions
Please remember that the Home & Studio is an accredited museum property and a National Historic Landmark. We consider it an honor and a privilege to use this internationally renowned structure, and depend on you to safeguard it for future generations.
- There is no smoking in the buildings or on the porches.
- For security reasons, photography is not permitted inside the buildings.
- Food that may stain the drafting room floor, such as red wine, sangria, barbecue sauce, strawberries or anything with beets is prohibited.
- Open-flame chafing dishes, grilling, open fires and candles (even if unlit) are prohibited. L.E.D. battery operated candles are permitted.
- Liquor cannot be sold at a cash bar or served to minors. Red wines cannot be served.
- Decoration is limited to table top arrangements on tables supplied by cater.
- Dancing and amplified music are not permitted.
- Parking is not allowed in any of the driveways.
- Children under thirteen are not encouraged to attend events and strollers are not permitted in the building. If an event must include young guests, the Preservation Trust must be informed and approved in advance.
- Doors are not be propped or held open at any time.
- No furniture or decorative objects are to be moved or used by anyone except curatorial staff.
- No equipment or serving dishes are to be placed on furniture, including built-in furniture.
- Care is to be taken to prevent abrasion of wall, floor, and historic building fabric surfaces.
- Floors must be protected from condensation, such as ice chests.
- In the event that restrictions are violated, user may be asked to leave at the discretion of the Trust staff.
Liability
Organizations and individuals must assume full financial responsibility for any damage to or loss of Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust’s property occurring during the use of the Home and Studio, and for any personal injury that may occur during, or as a result of such use.
Both the applicant and the caterer must furnish "event" liability insurance at least 21 days prior to use. A certificate of insurance must be furnished, showing personal liability coverage with a single limit of $1,000,000 per occurrence for bodily and property damage. The Trust shall be listed as certificate holder on the certificate of insurance. In addition, proof of dram shop insurance must be supplied by the caterer to the Trust 21 days prior to the event.
